ACT Wazalendo is still a new political party in Tanzania having been formed in 2014 and registered by the registrar of political parties as a political party.
The party came at a time when the existing parties, both in government and opposition, had shown their disinterest to push for essential reforms that would improve the livelihoods of Tanzanians.
In 2010 the country recorded a low voter turnout, only 42% turned out in comparison to 72% in 2005 and 84% in 2000, partly due to apathy from the thought that existing parties would not bring any new change and therefore voting for them again would be pointless.
So ACT Wazalendo was the new party promising to carry the change-agenda, bring in a new leadership to act on their issues and fight for the change they have been yearning for, for so long.
