IDIA (Initiative pour le Développement de l’Intelligence Artificielle)

Outline

This research project addresses the lack of data and evidence on artificial intelligence in francophone Africa by mobilizing research institutions (in collaboration with decision makers) to conduct evidence-based research on the challenges, successes, and best practices for the use of ethical and inclusive AI around the region. Research is then translated into actions and initiatives that engage decision-makers and inform policy development on responsible AI throughout francophone Africa.

IDRC, research institutions, members of parliament and government representatives from participating countries, civil society organizations.

As this initiative is still in its beginning stages, we are highlighting current successes that will lead to impact.

  • Funding for research to African Institutions for research on responsible AI policy
  • A vibrant network of parliamentarians on AI in Senegal
  • Contribution to the government of Senegal’s strategy process on AI
  • Commitment from 2 francophone countries ministries in charge of digitalization on driving a regional reflective process on responsible AI
  • Generation of public conversation on responsible AI
