The Aspen Institute’s New Voices Changing the World
Outline
Agents of change in various countries around the world need support when it comes to keeping the momentum in advocacy work. Niyel partnered with the Aspen New Voices Fellowship team to develop and deliver a joint curriculum on communications, advocacy, and storytelling training to equip different cohorts of experts and advocates from countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America with skills to change public opinion and shift public policy. Beyond the trainings, our mentors worked with each fellow to guide them through advocating for policy and practice change on a range of issues across 5 continents.

Impact
These are just a few of the achievements of our fellows in the course of the program:
- Taha Sabri in Pakistan was able to push for the Suicide Decriminalization bill to pass in Senate
- Timothy Egwelu in Uganda saw a change in public perception on deaf people and allowed more than 2,000 deaf people to access information regarding human rights and the law in sign language.
- Margaret Nigba in Liberia received funding from the Open Society Foundation and Democracy International to support the implementation of her advocacy strategy on GBV survivors in Liberia, monitor violence against women and to support women’s political participation ahead of the upcoming elections in Liberia and has been recognised as the human rights defender by Defend Defenders.
