Concept

Niyel partnered with the Gates Foundation to carry out a study assessing the tobacco control landscape in 5 African countries (Uganda, South Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Botswana). Variables studies included the tobacco control policy environment, corresponding legal framework, and impact of the tobacco control community on policy drafting, adoption, and implementation.

Outcomes

  • Clarity around who is who and doing what around tobacco control in Uganda, South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria and Botswana.
  • Greater understanding of the challenges on the wins, challenges, strengths, and weaknesses of the tobacco control community and landscape.
  • Recommendations with actionable solutions that will increase the impact of key tobacco control stakeholders.
